If you’re just starting out with Unity and aren’t really familiar with it you may find yourself sitting in front of your screen watching endless compile operations appear right before your eyes…only to get to the point where you wanna rip your damn eyes out. Luckily there are a few settings we can change to put an end to this annoying bullshit…so fear not.

Step 1. Preferences

Under the Preferences tab locate the Asset Pipeline section and set the Auto Refresh option to Disabled. This will prevent Unity from constantly recompiling your application each time you add new artwork to your project or make changes to scripts. You can press CTRL + R (if you’re on Windows) to manually recompile the application when you feel its necessary…trust me this is a much more sane solution.

Step 2. Project Settings

Under the Project Settings tab locate the Editor section and scroll down a bit until you find the Enter Play Mode Settings option and set this to Do not reload Domain or Scene. Now keep in mind that with this particular setting the Game window will not load your latest changes because no recompiling process has occurred – so be sure to hit CTRL – R just before you’re ready to do some play testing.

Believe me these settings will prevent you from going completely insane so do yourself a favor and follow these two essential tips : ]
